We review music demos from all over the world! However, Demorama is only here for NEW artists. What does that mean? It means musicians or artists who don't already have some sort of big industry connections. It means musicians or artists who are just starting out and getting ready to jump into the amazing? terrifying? tiring? living-in-a-van-down-by-the-river? world of music performance and promotion. For example: 1. We only review submissions from Indie artists. If you are on or affiliated with a major label, we wish you luck but will NOT take your submission. 2. If you have been in a popular, successful band before (ex: your last project sold a buttload of albums, or went on some big tours, or have songs in heavy rotation in radio stations around your country) then we won't take any submissions from your "new project." 3. If you do work for other successful projects -- say you produced an album by (insert name of famous band here), or you performed on some tracks for an album by (insert name of famous band here), or you play with (insert name of famous band here) when they tour, then we will not take your material. That's because you're already obviously established, and you have your highly coveted industry tie-ins. You're already bar-hoppin' and throwin' back beers with the beautiful and famous musical jet set. You see, Demorama could care a less about the beautiful and famous musical jet set...
...We're here just for the little guys. Never released an album before? Or you released one or two but you're having trouble promoting them, or nobody knows about you yet? Your last project wasn't as successful as you had hoped, or broke up before you became rich and famous? We're here to give you a review. That's because it will be damn hard, if not impossible, for you to get reviews elsewhere. Hence our motto:
We were fans before they were popular.
And then there's our Corporate Mission Statement, which is:
Demorama.com. Reviewing shitty bands for over 10 years. Yeah, we'll review your complete shit band too.
Demorama accepts vinyl, cassettes, and CD's. We also review online material. And although we review a large portion of the submissions we receive, we can't guarantee everyone a review. After you submit material, it usually takes a couple of months for your review to show up. NOTE: Please don't send us "followup" emails asking whether or not we got your submission. Honestly, we just don't have time to respond to all that followup email. It's hard enough for us to find writers to review the submissions -- hiring an admin assistant is out of the question.
Anyway...the submissions that we do review usually get listened to by one or two writers on our staff. And if we count our luckless friends, family and roommates that are around during this unfortunate time, then your submission gets listened to by even more people. All of our writers are certified music freaks, or in bands themselves. And since none of them get paid for their hours of hard work, we consider ourselves pretty lucky to have such a dedicated writing staff on board. We don't really know how we keep attracting all these writers. They spend hours listening to demos, crafting reviews, and re-crafting reviews. And all they get for it is scathing emails from the bands they didn't like. Oh, wait, there is all the free booze and great love slaves.
